A birthday party in northern Kentucky on early Saturday turned tragic when a mass shooting killed at least four people and injured three others. The gunman, 21-year-old Chase Garvey, fled the scene and led police on a chase that ended when his car crashed into a ditch. Garvey later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Florence Police Chief reported that officers arrived at a home in Florence around 2:50 a.m. after hearing gunshots. They found seven victims, out of which, four were dead at the scene, and three were critically injured and transported to a hospital in Cincinnati. The injured are expected to recover.
Police confirmed that Garvey acted alone in the shooting. The party was a birthday celebration for the 21-year-old son of homeowner Melissa Parrett, 44, who was among those killed. The other victims were Shane Miller, aged 20; Hayden Rybicki, aged 20; and Delaney Eary, aged 19. Garvey was acquainted with some partygoers but was not invited.
Florence Police expressed deep sorrow for the victims, their families, and the officers involved, noting this was the city’s first mass shooting. Neighbor Leah Moore recounted initially mistaking the gunshots for firecrackers and later seeing police lights and crime tape. Moore described Parrett and her family as wonderful people.
